A growing use for data capture is information from forms, which may be filled out by hand as well as typed. Often these forms never see paper in your facility because they arrive as a fax directly into a computer and the data is extracted into a database right there. Paper forms can be scanned in and processed in the same way.
Modern software can deskew the form, do line removal and read the entries in the fields, including hand printed entries. The final result is popped up on the screen for a final check, with any places the software was uncertain about highlighted.
Data capture is also done from many other sources, including bar-code labels employee pass cards, electronic sensors of all kinds, and from any other device that can produce a data stream.
